Mr White is an Iman descendent who grew up and was schooled in the Rockhampton Region. He is currently the Director of Sector Engagement and Communications with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service in Brisbane.  He has worked in government for more than 15 years, in roles that have involved policy development, program management, human resources and service delivery. He has extensive experience working with Queensland Government agencies in the areas of Small Business, Communities, Child Safety, Multicultural Affairs and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. He is currently a member of the Queensland Sentencing Advisory Council, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group,  currently on the board of the Police Citizens Youth Club Queensland, a specialist Director with Kambu Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health. Dr Vin Thomas taught in Christian Brothers’ schools for thirteen years, including eight years at Rostrevor College before being appointed to the leadership position of Deputy Principal for six years at Christian Brothers College, Adelaide. He was then appointed principal of a diocesan secondary school, Gleeson College, which he led for six years, before being appointed an Assistant Director Of Catholic Education SA (CESA) initially with responsibility for education and curriculum services and then for finance, planning, capital development, HR, legal, industrial relations and technology. He retired after serving two years as deputy director of CESA. During his professional life he was a marker, setter and Chief Examiner for Australian History with the SA Certificate of Education Board, served on a number of both state and national bodies including as a deputy member of the Education and Early Childhood Services Registration and Standards Board of SA (EECSRSB) and as a member of both the Planning and the Advisory Committees for Non-Government Schools. He has served as a member and a deputy member of several superannuation funds, including NGS Super. Since retiring full-time he consulted for the EECSRSB in the registration of non-government schools and has chaired the Rostrevor College SAC and is a member of the Nazareth Catholic College Advisory Board.
